Museum of writers from Dâmboviţa County

The museum is found very close to the History Museum, just around the corner, next to the city stadium. The house belonged to Ioan Alexandru Brătescu-Voineşti,(1868-1946), author of novels "The Fledgeling" and "Niculăiţă the Liar" among others. The first story is about how children should listen to their parents, the second is the tragic story of a bright but shy peasant boy. The authors' birthplace survives to this day, it is a luxurious house opposite the History Museum. The house he lived in, the museum, is found in a natural setting and has a rustic character. Part of the interior decoration was preserved. The museum presents major figures of national literature, born in Târgovişte region or linked to it.
The first to be mentioned are literary titans Ion-Heliade Rădulescu (1802-1872) and Grigore Alexandrescu (1810-1885). The first was an influential 19th century politician and writer. The second is the founder of the Romanian fable genre ("The dog and the whelp"). Both are honoured in the city with bronze busts, the first in front of the City Hall, the second to its right, where his birthplace can still be found (a very small house by today's standards).
Ienăchiţă Văcărescu (1740-1797), nobleman and writer, he is considered to be the first modern Romanian poet. His literary testament forebodes the romantic and nationalist movement of the 19th century: "To my Văcăreşti successors / I entrust you with this legacy / Grow the Romanian language / Honor your motherland."
Vasile Cârlova (1809-1831) was an army officer and he died young of illness. He dedicated a beautiful poem to the city: "Târgovişte's ruins" "Oh, sad walls! Oh praised monument! / In what great glory you have once shone / When a sweet and much happier sun / Poured its light on this enslaved land...". Since the times he wrote the poem, luckily, Târgovişte and the Pincely Court have found a new splendour.
Let us remember poetry in this beautiful museum.
